The magic of the basque country

So, I have just arrived back from my week long hen party in sunny Barcelona - and believe me it was very sunny! We drank cartons of Don Simon red wine (1.5 euros a litre was too hard to resist!). We smoked far too many cigarettes; ate a LOT of tapas and spent far too many hours bathing in the basque country sun. It was delightful to say the least.

A group snap...

On one afternoon, we rambled in to the gothic quarter and there I found the most enchanting shop I have ever entered, 'Llibreria Selvaggio'. Picture this ... decrepit oak shelves barely attached to their hinges, but holding the most beautiful, ancient, musty leather bound books. A man of about 50 with a handsome spanish moustache (better than the ones in east London, trust me, I know!). He sits smoking a vintage cigar and the smell of dried tobacco permeates the air. There are stacks and stacks of vintage postcards, some with hand written notes on the back. I chose one, which my dear friend Caroline kindly translated and it goes like this ...

My darling
I miss you more and more each day and if I had all of the pearls and diamonds in the world, then I would send them your way, but alas I am a poor man, but maybe one day.

Yours forever

B

A snap pf the postcard...

So very sweet, and the postcard dates 1943. Love never grows old. I love that this tiny shop is filled with so many stories. It has so much character and I haven't stopped thinking about it since my visit. A real inspiration. We try to give a similar experience with our clothes. All hand picked and each piece has a story of it's own. I want to visit more shops like the one in Barcelona. Please let me know if you have any recommendations, I'd be delighted to know! xxx
