So we have finally moved to 49 Mowlem Street (on the corner of Vyner Street), London E29HE down the back streets of Hackney! Our new space is a studio shop and since Christmas we have been slogging away painting walls, building rails and carefully hanging our antique mirrors. We will be open for appointment, and our regular opening times will be announced soon!

Moving shop

Sorry it has been so long since our last post. What with getting married and welcoming our new cat Phantom to the boat, we've not had much time!

My favourite pic from our wedding, courtsey of our gorgeous friend Alex (www.alexandria-hall.co.uk) A wedding blog will follow shortly!

Our cat Phantom. He is very cute, but very naughty. He manages to get into every nook and cranny on the boat and has destroyed everything - including our vintage Parker Knoll arm chair!

So some more big news.... We are moving shop on December 1st!!! After three years of magical vintage times at our shop on Cambridge Heath Road, we've decided that we would like to find a new space. We have loved our shop, but we really want to develop our homeware section and we feel we need a different space to do so. For all of our lovely regulars, you will still find us online (www.frockneyrebel.com) and we have a few other surprises up our sleeves... we are trying really hard to make a pop up shop on our boat, which will be moored at Broadway Market for the winter months. So just a 4 minute walk from our current shop location. We have been looking at shops in different areas of London, but have decided to have a wonderful relaxing Christmas and go full steam ahead come the new year. We will keep you updated with all the info.

Me moving (I still can't drive, so if you see me tottering down to our new studio like so, please offer your help, I will certainly need it!)

Untill next time beautiful people, oh and dont forget to follow us on facebook for updates ... https://www.facebook.com/FrockneyRebel xxx

Making, baking & buying

This week has been all about Making, baking and buying... well not so much baking, butI have found so many beautiful things for the shop and for the boat (and for me!!). This Victorian doll's pram is my favourite. I did my research and it dates back to 1870. It was a little expensive, but well worth it! I tried to walk away, but I just couldn't! Anyway it makes for a very welcome addition to the shop, or I could wheel it down bethnal green with a doll in it and pretend it was my baby (that would be very scary) I wouldn't do that.... Yet!

Victorian pram

Mirror I found. Was gold, but think it looks better white.

1950's Tala cake tin. Bought from a lovely lady on Columbia road flower market.

Crystal decanters bought for the wedding. I think these will make lovely table pieces. On sale from Frockney Rebel in September. (So far I have collected 10, about 20 to go!)

Amazing blue Rover. I found this in my dad's stone yard. I would have taken it, but it wouldn't fit in my bag!

I am soon to be married and I have just realised that I have been far too laid back with the preparations . I have no wedding planner. I am the wedding planner! Anyway the last few weeks have been about frantic bunting/Wedding book/tag/invitation and banner making. I have been on my sewing machine non stop. I am also a maniac on etsy, desperately searching for a veil and other last minute things. We are getting married in the woods, which is exciting and may be a little bonkers considering the weather we've had. I would consider myself a laid back person and usually take things in my stride, BUT and it really is a big but, I do not want to wear wellies on my wedding day. Sure I'll knock about in wellies if I'm at Glastonbury, but I would much rather wear a beautiful pair of vintage heels. I'd even be ok if the stiletto occasionally sinks in to the mud, but if it is a mud bath then I'm guessing wellies are the only option! Anyway rant over, lets pray for the sun until then!
Oh and here are some of the beautiful things I have been buying for the shop. Until next time xxx

The magic of the basque country

So, I have just arrived back from my week long hen party in sunny Barcelona - and believe me it was very sunny! We drank cartons of Don Simon red wine (1.5 euros a litre was too hard to resist!). We smoked far too many cigarettes; ate a LOT of tapas and spent far too many hours bathing in the basque country sun. It was delightful to say the least.

A group snap...

On one afternoon, we rambled in to the gothic quarter and there I found the most enchanting shop I have ever entered, 'Llibreria Selvaggio'. Picture this ... decrepit oak shelves barely attached to their hinges, but holding the most beautiful, ancient, musty leather bound books. A man of about 50 with a handsome spanish moustache (better than the ones in east London, trust me, I know!). He sits smoking a vintage cigar and the smell of dried tobacco permeates the air. There are stacks and stacks of vintage postcards, some with hand written notes on the back. I chose one, which my dear friend Caroline kindly translated and it goes like this ...

My darling
I miss you more and more each day and if I had all of the pearls and diamonds in the world, then I would send them your way, but alas I am a poor man, but maybe one day.

Yours forever

B

A snap pf the postcard...

So very sweet, and the postcard dates 1943. Love never grows old. I love that this tiny shop is filled with so many stories. It has so much character and I haven't stopped thinking about it since my visit. A real inspiration. We try to give a similar experience with our clothes. All hand picked and each piece has a story of it's own. I want to visit more shops like the one in Barcelona. Please let me know if you have any recommendations, I'd be delighted to know! xxx

6. We are now selling on instagram ... Gorgeous pieces are updated and if you like and wanna take home, you leave us a little comment and we will reserve it for you. This is a lot of fun and feels like a mini vintage auction! You'll find us @frockneyrebel

8. We have been on amazing buying trips to Berlin and Naples. And recently a Frockney Rebel friend went on a buying trip to America, so be prepared for some seriously hot Californian summer dresses!
